SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, which is used to validate whether an e-mail message is sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a domain will stop the counterfeiting of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: activating this function for a domain name generates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers that are allowed to send emails from mailboxes under the domain. As soon as this record propagates globally, it exists on all DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Whenever some e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it uses verifies whether it originates from an accredited server. In the event it does, it is sent to the destination address, yet if it does not come from a server part of the SPF record for the domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will mask an e-mail address then make it appear as if you're sending spam. This approach is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

SPF protection can be activated for each domain hosted in a website hosting account on our cloud hosting platform with just a couple of clicks. The function can be found in the Emails section of our advanced Hepsia Control Panel and all it takes to enable it is to choose one of your domain names from the drop-down list and to type in the hostnames as well as the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the email servers which will be certified to send email messages from your emails. As an added option you can also restrict the email messages to be sent from your domain only when it has our MX records, in other words when our servers handle the email addresses for it, not a third-party provider. This feature will provide you with the top degree of safety, but it is not applicable in case only your website is on our servers while your emails for the domain are managed elsewhere. In either case, the SPF protection service will keep your email addresses protected from being used for spam and scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you can protect your email addresses by activating the SPF protection service for any domain name in the account with just a couple of mouse-clicks. This can be done through the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts and even in case you have no previous experience with these things, you won't have any kind of problems to enable the protection. All that you will have to do is to select a domain name from a drop-down list and after that type in the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. Once the new record propagates, messages from your e-mail addresses will be mailed globally only if they're sent from that specific server. If your email addresses are taken care of by us and not by a third-party supplier, you will also be able to take advantage of an option for e-mail messages to be sent only if the domain features our MX records and this would be the safest option. If you have any questions related to thisfunction, you'll be able to get in touch with our support team 24/7.
